this is an inclusive society

Recently, he screamed.... before the flag raising ceremony. His scream was loud enough that some of the upper sec FT heard (so, i suppose the upper sec students heard too). I didn't realise the repercussion till last friday when a group of sec 2 boys (who happened to be my art students from different classes plus another sec 1 boy) surrounded him and teased him. Unable to control, he screamed.

teacher: "what happened?"
student from his class: "Ms Orhz, that group of boys there bullied him, calling him names." (sec one love to report all this nitty gritty things...)
teacher: " all of you come here"
teacher: " ok, i taught most of you and i dont think i ever teach you to tease people"
student 1: " he is weird........" " his nose is red"
teacher: " you mean you are not weird?" "he is special....not weird"
student 2: " you mean he is like R in my class? "
teacher: " R is special too, but they are special in their own way" ( R is clinically dx with adhd while he is dx with asperger)
student 3: " if he is so special, shdn't he go to a special sch like metta"

now, I was surprised that this student know metta sch.... anyway, student 3 was known to climb up a tree recently when a classmate chased him...)

teacher (almost immediate after student 3 response): " so, if you climb up a tree, shdn't i send you to the zoo?"

students: ...............

anyway, I have told the boys that bullying and teasing are wrong... and if anybody does that to this boy, they have to report to a teacher.

I am amazed with my words at times..... As i am typing this post, i have a deeper understanding of what it meant to be an inclusive society... it simply mean you have to learn to cope and live with some special people.... and some weirdos. So if there is anybody near you who is weird, be patient, this is an inclusive society..........where you have special kids, weird colleagues/ kids and kid who climb tree....
