daughter entered the scene with a stack of papers...
Dad : I'm sure you regret being a teacher now.
Daughter : Regret or no regret, it's a choice that i had made then.
Dad: You would be happier if you had stayed on being a social worker.
Daughter: What makes you think so?
Dad: You won't be sitting here marking papers after a hard day at work? You should have listen to our advice then. You are more suited to be in your previous profession.
Daughter: why?
Dad: because you dont have so much "ai xin" to give.
Daughter : ha... what's made you think that i dont need "ai xin" in my previous profession?
Dad: You can just tell the family... sorry.. my boss reject your application.
Daughter: ha.
======================================================
Perhaps.. i really dont have so much "ai xin". I dont have so much to give to my 40 students. There is a different type of emotion involved being a teacher and social worker. both jobs need a heart... but you can last longer in both if you learn to feel less. hahaha. Despite leaving the field for 2.5 years, my parents still prefer me being a social worker..
it is not helpful when your colleagues tell you that your personality is more suited to be a social worker,minus the pay.
it is not helpful when your ex-colleagues keep asking you when you will be returning to the field to reminisce old times and to slog, ventilate together.
and it is certainly not helpful when your parents still prefer you being a social worker.
when you are tired AND frustrated from a day of work and you still have a bond to serve, you need to have this faith.... "i think.. and i know.. that i can do it...because i have the perseverance.. hahahaha"
now...who am i lying?
I stared at the moon and wonder.
